FROME’S branch of the Royal British Legion held a party for its members last month and presented awards to long-serving volunteers.
The party was held at the Frome Cricket Club and was attended by over 50 volunteers, with 19 members being awarded certificates for their years of service.
Legion member and Poppy Appeal organiser Maggy Daniell said, “The total for 2015’s Poppy Appeal is likely to be about £31,000 once Gift Aid is added. This is a splendid figure, which tops that 2014’s total and is another record. We owe this continued success to the hard work of all our team of volunteers.”
Those who received awards for long service were Nigel and Theresa Salisbury (30 years); Sarah Thomas and Nora le Strange (20 years); Tony Dyer and Shaun O’Connor (15 years); Peter Dayman-Johns, Jane Wood, Alan Denmead, Leslie Burry and Elizabeth Robertson (ten years); Bill Baxter, Paul Truscott, Maureen Larman, Simon Blake, Susan Simpson, Betty Adams, Gwen Jarvis and Carline Gumley (five years).
