A Frome school has been given a cash boost by a regional builder to help it provide new playground equipment for pupils.
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, based in Bristol, donated £1,000 to Berkley First School through its ‘Community Champions’ scheme. The builder chose the school to benefit from its monthly match-funded donation.
The small school has been raising money to provide new playground equipment, as well as funds to revamp their spiritual garden for its pupils, from nursery to year four.
Luci Pickford, spokesperson for the school said, “Berkley First School is a small school and unfortunately we struggle for funds.
“This donation will be put towards creating a fun learning environment outdoors. It is great to be able to provide another learning environment for the children. It keeps them engaged and in the summer, it is lovely to be able to encourage outdoor learning.
“We cannot thank Persimmon Homes Severn Valley enough for their support. We want to create a vibrant outdoor space for the children to use and with Persimmon’s donation we’ll be able to do this.”
The housebuilder’s national match-funding programme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life for local people
Carly Spear, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley said, “We strongly believe in supporting the communities where we build, and we are delighted to be able to help a local primary school in this way. It is clear that lots of pupils will benefit from the new equipment.
“If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again this year and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
