GROUNDWORKS have recently been undertaken in Sunnyside in Frome following a burst water main and subsidence which has caused damage to the area and resulted in a car partially sinking into the ground.
It is yet unclear what caused the pipe to burst, but the land owner, Aster, says it will send a specialist out to the area to investigate.
Bristol Water said last week, “We have repaired a burst main in the Sunnyside area of Frome, which briefly affected supply to nearby properties. We expect to complete all necessary work at the site on Friday [12 January] and would like to thank local residents for their understanding.”
They said it is not known what caused the burst and subsidence; however there was excessive rainfall in the area at the time which may have had an impact.
Aster added, “We’re investigating the situation at Sunnyside and we understand that groundworks have been undertaken recently by a utility company, following a water leak.
“It is too early for us to comment on the likely cause. We have taken immediate steps to send a specialist structural engineer and soils expert to the site to identify exactly what has happened. Based on their recommendations, we will agree what follow-up steps need to be carried out, and will update our customers.”
