Businesses build shed for dementia service garden

The Emma Sheppard Centre in Frome has granted the wish of one of its members, thanks to local businesses, Mole Valley Farmers and Blackdown Buildings. 

The service, which provides day care to people living with dementia, recently introduced a wishing tree. One of the customers hung their wish on the tree, which asked for a shed for the grounds of the Emma Sheppard Centre. 

Centre staff say, “Mole Valley Farmers and Blackdown Buildings were more than happy to oblige and offered their assistance with this by not only donating a shed, but delivering and building it. 

“The presentation was made in October, with a buffet celebration following, which was a great opportunity for Adam from Mole Valley Farmers, Jacob and John from Blackdown Buildings and the customers to spend time getting to know each other. 

“Adam from Mole Valley Farmers in Frome has also offered further support with ongoing projects, such as a sensory garden and a further donation of a Christmas tree and raffle prize. He’s also asked Somerset Care staff to deliver a Dementia Friends session to his team, so that they can be aware of the affects of living with dementia.” 

Joanna Perkins, supervisor at Somerset Care and Emma Sheppard Centre said, “We are so grateful to both Mole Valley Farmers and Blackdown Buildings for their generosity, kindness and sense of community spirit. The customers are delighted and can’t wait to start making the most of their new addition in the garden. 

“We would like to thank all local businesses in Frome and surrounding areas for supporting us and helping to raise dementia awareness.”
