WHEN Edventure: Frome asked on social media “Does Frome need a community bike workshop – where people can come to fix, maintain or refurbish bikes?” the answer was a resounding “Yes!”
As a result, they are bringing together a team of young adults to create a new start-up course to do just that. They are also inviting everyone in Frome to join them and share their ideas.
They say, “Edventure Soup is a free, evening event on Wednesday 11th March. Everyone who is interested in the community bike workshop, or in community enterprise in our town, is welcome to join for an evening of soup, bread, community and discussion about how the community bike workshop should look and what it should do. The idea is that we can all have an input in the kinds of things we want to see in our town.”
Johannes Moeller, co-founder and M.D of Edventure says, “In order to address the challenges that we face and build the solutions that we need, we need to come together around things that we can practically do as a community.
“We are always excited to meet local people and it’s quite amazing to experience the people of Frome rally behind ideas and initiatives that are good for our town. Amazing things happen when people who are interested in the same sort of stuff come together for an evening.”
Edventure: Frome say, “Students on the Edventure start-up course will meet each other for the first time on Monday 9th March, and embark on a 10-week challenge to make the community bike workshop real. At Edventure Soup, they’ll introduce themselves, present their project and ask for your ideas, input and support to make the project come to life. You’re welcome to come along and share your ideas, skills or resources with the project and become actively involved in the outcome. Or simply come to meet like-minded people, hear about the project and share a simple meal together.
“Past Edventure start-up courses have started community enterprises in Frome, like the SHARE Shop, The Community Fridge, MAKE: Shed and Frome Wardrobe Collective. This is the 14th Edventure start-up course to run.
“The overall aim is to support more people in Frome to get on two wheels more often. It’s an opportunity to bring people together, share skills, create employment opportunities and more. The student team could put together all kinds of different programmes, from refurbishing bikes for resale to offering drop-in repair services and bike MOT sessions – they’d love to what you’d like to see/what your family would use.
“Edventure Soup is taking place on Wednesday 11th March 6-8pm at Edventure’s co-working space, The Welsh Mill Hub. It is free and informal, but please let us know you’re coming (so we know how much soup to make!) here: https://edventurefrome.org/events/edventure-soup/. This project is a partnership between Edventure: Frome, Frome Town Council, Frome’s Missing Links and other organisations.”
