WOULD you like to be the next JK Rowling or Roald Dahl? There can be no better way to start, than taking part in Frome Rotary’s annual Young Writers’ Competition in association with Hunting Raven Books and Frome Writers’ Collective.
The theme of this year’s competition is ‘A Different Perspective’. There are three age categories: 7-10, 11-13 and14-17. Entries should be up to 500 words or one side of A4 in any style of your choosing. Prizes and trophies will be available in each category and winners will go forward to the Rotary district level. Winners there will be entered into Rotary’s national competition.
Frome Rotary youth committee chairman, Marilyn Dorrington said, “We have sent details to all the schools in Frome inviting them to take part. We want to encourage as many young writers as possible to join in. We are enormously grateful to FWC for agreeing to judge the competition and for their sponsorship, and to Hunting Raven for their support and sponsorship.”
Gill Harry of FWC added, “The FWC trustees are delighted to support the Rotary Young Writers’ Competition. As well as sponsoring a prize, we are providing the judges through our Silver Crow team of trained readers, so the entrants will get the benefit of an experienced and professional appraisal of their entries.”
Independent entries are very welcome. Forms can be obtained from Glyn Carpenter glyncarpenter@ btinternet.com. Closing date for entries is Saturday 9th December.
