A CARDIAC screening day for young people has been postponed due to a shortage of medical staff.
The event was due to be held this month in memory of Julian Wort, who died in March 2000 from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), aged just 28. It is the third time the event has been postponed – it was originally intended to be held in March 2020 on what would have been Julian’s 50th birthday, but was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The screening has been rescheduled for 18th March 2023.
“Unfortunately, the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) screening that was due to take place this year on March 19th in memory of Julian has had to be postponed once again,” said Julian’s mother, Shirley Wort, who with the help of friends and family has raised over £50,000 since Julian’s death.
“Due to the pandemic, many of the CRY Doctors are unavailable for screening days. This is our third cancellation, and obviously we are very disappointed. We are now booked for 18th March 2023.”
Money raised by the Wort family since Julian’s death in 2000 has been used to purchase and donate two ECG machines and two defibrillators to local hospitals, and organise four Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) heart screening sessions, enabling 369 young people to be screened for hidden heart problems.
