AS excitement builds for next month’s carnival, committee members have presented local charities with money raised at last year’s procession, totalling £5,000.
At a special presentation evening held earlier this month, cheques for £1,125 were presented to Fair Frome, YMCA Routes, Mencap and Active and in Touch. A cheque for £500 was also presented to the Rode Scouts group. Committee members also took the opportunity to thank local groups and organisations for their continued support of the carnival.
On behalf of Frome Carnival, Mandy Morgan said, “We were so pleased that the evening was a great success and enjoyed by all.”
This year, Frome Carnival’s street collection will be raising money for Fair Frome, YMCA Routes and Fair Housing for Frome’s ‘Zero Nights’ initiative, which bring homeless people in from the cold over the winter months. The collection will be organised by the Frome Rotary Club who have been responsible for the collection for many years.
About this year’s Frome Carnival, which will be held on Saturday 21st September, chairperson, June Barnes, said, “We are very excited for carnival. And this year we have some very special guests joining us from all three of Frome’s twin towns. Frome Twinning Association has arranged for representatives from Château-Gontier, in the Mayenne, France; Murrhardt in Baden Württemberg, Germany; and Rabka-Zdrόj, Poland, to visit Frome during carnival. We are delighted to have them and a huge thank you to the Frome Twinning Association for organising this.
“Volunteers are very important to the success of carnival – and we are always grateful to anyone who can help. This year we are looking for people to help marshal the event. Anyone interested in helping can call me on 01373 461625.”
