MEMBERS of Frome Carnival committee travelled to Murrhardt, Frome’s twin town, for their annual carnival events.
June Barnes, Frome Carnival chair reports, “After an invite was extended, following members of Murrhardt Carnival’s visit to Frome Carnival last year, a warm welcome was extended to all. Our hosts had laid on a meal on arrival, which was very welcome after a very early start from Frome.
“Various events and visits to nearby towns were arranged, including a tour of the brewery where their famous Gold Award beer is produced. Free samples were had by all, including non-alcoholic for Frome’s young ambassador, Jessica.
“On Saturday there was a visit and tour of the Mercedes Benz museum and free time to wander the high street of Stuttgart. The Saturday night carnival procession was very different to ours, but consisted of 60 different groups wearing different types of masks and costumes, with candy being thrown to the crowd. There was music from various bands, including one from Switzerland, The Lady Killers, playing the Beatles.
“We landed up on their coach, and they very kindly took us back to Stuttgart airport for our return home. We all very much enjoyed our visit and look forward to their return to us in 2019.”
