THE Ladies’ section of Orchardleigh Golf Club held their annual meeting on Tuesday 8th November at the clubhouse attended by around 25 members.
The club reports, “Anne Carpenter started by reporting on her year as lady captain saying she had enjoyed her time in office and the all the events that had taken place. She thanked her committee members for their full support throughout the year.
“There were reports from the treasurer, handicap secretary and competition secretary as well as the two team captains of the Alliance (Sue Sweet) and Interclub (Sonia Probert).
“In the Bristol and District Alliance League, Orchardleigh remain in Division 5 whereas the Somerset Interclub League team did extremely well by starting the golfing year being promoted to Division 2 from 3 and then went on to have a very good season only losing three of their eight matches.
“In the final match of the year, they won against Minehead with 5 ½ points which gave them the trophy as the winning team in their division resulting in a further promotion, this time to the First Division.
“It was an excellent year for the Orchardleigh Ladies as they also reached the finals of the Roger’s Cup (a county team knock-out competition) for the first time. Although the Orchardleigh Ladies section is a relatively small one, they are very proud of their achievements this season.
“Anne went on to introduce Loes de Kleuver as the new lady captain and Lin Handley as her vice-captain. Other new officers elected onto the committee were Sue Marshall as secretary replacing Sue Chalker. Christine Arnold remains as treasurer, Ann James as handicap secretary and Diana Bullock as competitions secretary. Extra committee members elected were Carol Weightman and Sheila Goodbody.
“There were further discussions on two proposals from the committee and voting took place. The meeting was then closed and the winners of the monthly Medal and Stableford competitions for 2022 were presented with their prizes. They are as follows:
“Medal winners: Div 1 – Ann James, Sonia Probert, Gail Painter, Anne Regler, Loes de Kleuver, Diana Bullock, Sarah Doble, Lin Handley, Sue Marshall; Div 2 – Marion Underhill, Christine Arnold, Liz Attenborough, Sue Chalker.
“Stableford winners: Div 1 – Loes de Kleuver, Gail Painter, Nadine Stock, Ann James, Diana Bullock, Sarah Hynds; Div 2 – Anne Carpenter, Liz Attenborough, Sue Chalker. 9-hole Stableford: Carol Jenkin, Diana Norris.”
