Frome Bridge Club recently took part in the Michael Coda Cup, a Somerset charity event in aid of Somerset Cancer Care.
Bridge Clubs from all over Somerset took part. The Michael Coda Cup is a long standing tradition of Somerset bridge, with the same hands being played at most Somerset Bridge clubs, but on different nights (and indeed afternoons) of the week.
Frome Bridge Club performed very creditably, with Marianne Lewin and David Alsford finishing 4th, Mike Porteous and Don Burgess 10th, and Gayle and Colin Webb 11th out of 235 entries. This is the best result for Frome Bridge Club in this competition for many years. The competition raised over £1,600 for Somerset Cancer Care.
Frome Bridge Club plays duplicate bridge at 7.00pm on a Monday night. On Thursday mornings, starting at 9.30am, Frome Bridge Club currently runs three parallel sets of classes, for beginners, improvers, and for those people who already play regularly but want to become more expert at the game. All events take place in Wesley Church.
You would always be welcome to come to the club as a new member, either to the Monday night club if you have some experience of playing duplicate bridge, or simply fancy your chances, or to one of the Thursday morning lessons if you wanted to learn from scratch or wanted to improve your existing skills. You would be guaranteed a friendly welcome at a minimal cost.
Recent results on a Monday night are: 8th February – winners – Graeme Etherington and Peter Coole; 15th February – winners – Chris Hogan and John Brown.
