Frome women are fundraising for two charities, in memory of their dads who died by suicide around 30 years ago.
Ginny Adams also known as Cheryl Sprinkler from Mojo Moves, the town’s comedy aerobics class and Lisa Glass former organiser of Window Wanderland, are holding a fundraising silent disco for two charities; Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SoBS) in memory of their dads, Ken Adams who died aged 47 and Paul Cooke who died aged 56.
A spokesperson on behalf of Ginny and Lisa, said, “This year is the 25th and 30th anniversaries of them losing their dads so they wanted to mark the year with a fundraiser. When Ginny first met Lisa, she was dressed as a Dalek and had agreed to be filmed shopping in the local Co-op as part of Ginny’s Facebook group, Dress Up Fridays.
“They soon discovered that they had a lot more in common than the love of dressing up. Through open and honest conversations, they found out that both their dads had died by suicide. Devastating and unthinkable events which shaped their futures.
“The coincidences continue as both women were born in 1971 and each has one son (eight and nine). Ginny had just returned from backpacking in India and Lisa was still travelling around India when they got the devastating news about their dads.”
The silent disco will involve wearing a headset to listen to a special curated playlist spanning three genres of music; indie, pop and rock. 100% of the proceeds will go to the two charities.
CALM’s been raising awareness about suicide prevention since 1997, when their life-saving helpline launched.
SoBS offers peer-to-peer support to all those over the age of 18, impacted by suicide loss in the UK. Helping those bereaved by suicide to support each other, at the time of their loss and in the months and years that follow.
The silent disco will be held on Saturday 8th July from 6pm to 8pm at Lisa’s Paddock, 1.5 miles from Frome Town Centre.
It is an adult only event. Tickets cost £12, for further information and to book a space visit the event on Eventbrite, https://www .eventbrite.co.uk/e/silent-disco-in-aid-of-calm-sobs-tickets-654878297617
