A member of the Christ Church congregation is celebrating 60 years of singing in the church’s choir.
Brian Bullock, 88, moved to Frome in November 1964 and joined the Christ Church choir when he was in his late 20s.
He has been a stalwart of the church trimming hedges, checking the boiler, clearing the gutters, and putting up the Christmas lights.
“I really enjoy singing in the choir,” says Brian who is a tenor and stands in the back row. “I would not have stayed all these years if I didn’t enjoy it. As well as singing we have been on outings once a year with the choir to places like Weymouth, Portland and Bournemouth.”
Over the years, Brian said he has seen the numbers of the congregation and choir change. “Back in the early days, we used to stand by the organ and I could look down on the congregation and count around 70-odd people but there are not as many people these days. We also used to get lots of younger people in the choir but again there seems to be so many other things on that we don’t get so many of them anymore,” he said.
A fellow member of the congregation said, “Brian is an inspiration to us and is always there, always supportive and still singing.”
