The Christmas Carol Service and Charity Auction at Frome Livestock Market on Monday night really showed the Christmas spirit is alive and well in our area.
Organisers say, “This, the 26th Annual Charity Auction in aid of children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent, raised a fantastic record amount of £2,021 for this very worthwhile cause (£500 more than the previous best) and with a record amount of gifts for the auction, plus a record attendance made this a brilliant night for all concerned!
“With record amounts raised through the carol service collection (£311) and auction (£1,205.50), plus generous donations from auctioneers Cooper and Tanner, Frome Rotary Club and several individuals, this has set a high bar for any future events!
“Star of the evening was undoubtedly auctioneer Dennis Barnard who had the audience in stitches with his witty banter and auctioneer’s ‘patter’. Dennis managed to raise generous bids including £110 for a Center Parcs day pass and £68 for an Asda Christmas gnome, in a quick-fire sale of over 100 items!
“Many, many thanks must go to all the generous companies, shops and individuals who donated to the event, to all the helpers on the night including Michael Joyce from Cooper and Tanner, Mrs.B’s Catering, the market chaplain, Rachel Webster from CLIC Sargent, Pam Jones and family who started the traditional event back in 1993, the Dilton Marsh ‘mob’ and all those who contributed to this record breaking amount.
“As Dennis said at the end of the night ‘What a brilliant evening!’”
