In December, Frome SODA (Society for Disabled Artists) welcomed members, volunteers, tutors and honoured guests to its annual Christmas tea, splendidly catered for them by Bernie Hewitt, a long-time friend of the group. Her Bailey’s cheesecake was particularly appreciated!
Chairman Clive Irvine-Gizzie welcomed everyone to the event on 15th December, particularly Councillor Sheila Gore, the Mayor of Frome, whose mother Marion, who was also present, is a SODA member.
The Chairman said that the group had had another good year, including an especially successful 10-day exhibition in St John’s parish church during the Frome Festival. The group continues to be full, with a small waiting list.
Between courses came a hotly-contested Christmas-themed quiz, the eventual winners being Teresa Fox and Clive Irvine Gizzie. They scored 18 out of a possible 20, only just ahead of several other pairs with 17, collecting prizes of a Frome Festival mug and a Frome Festival bag.
Following a well-supported raffle with plenty of prizes – somehow, everyone went home with at least one, cries of “Fix!” being firmly ignored – and a number of willing helpers for the washing-up, everyone went away warmed by mugs of the Chairman’s secret-recipe non-alcoholic mulled wine and a contented feeling of another enjoyable year.
