FROME College Interact Club was launched in Frome Town Hall on Monday 21st May. Interact Clubs are supported by the Rotary around the world and this will be the first in the area.
The inaugural president is Tom Haines, who will be ably assisted by a team of students. Tom was presented with the Charter document by Rotary District governor, Stewart Cursley, and it was witnessed by the former mayor, cllr Sheila Gore, and the three Frome Rotary Club presidents, some other Interactors and Rotarians, and headteacher Emma Reynolds.
After the presentations, the students had organised a buffet lunch which was well received by all. The new club is affiliated to the Frome Selwood Rotary who will assist the students as required. The first two challenges ahead are the planning of a pop concert and a college fair, to raise money for the two charities the students want to support; one local, We Hear You, and the other international, Shelterbox.
Malcolm Westgate, youth lead for the Frome Selwood Club said, “We are delighted to have had the support of headteacher, Emma Reynolds, in establishing this Interact club. These clubs are designed for students of secondary/ middle school age and we hope that the club will expand in Frome College and exist for many years.”
Gemma Wilkes of WHY thanked the students for supporting the charity as did Hugh Deed, who is both a member of Frome Selwood Rotary and also a ShelterBox volunteer and speaker.
