THE Kilimanjaro for MNDA campaign team of coaches, football players and friends from Frome Collegians AFC were delighted to receive a cheque for £1,024.00 from Frome Community College following a recent mufti day. This has brought the fundraising to-date to £14,400 with a campaign target to achieve of £36,900.
Frome Community College offered their support to this campaign as a number of the 9-strong team, who will climb Kilimanjaro in June, are ex-pupils of the school and some have college.
Gavin Ball, headteacher of Frome Community College said, “As the community school of Frome we want to support our town, support our past students and support our young people. It is wonderful that the community is getting together to raise funds and an awareness of MNDA.
“It is a passion of mine that we educate our young people about the wider issues in life and develop their capacity to help others. I am proud that we have contributed towards the MNDA campaign and I encourage others to support their fund raising activities.”
The school also offer their facilities to the coaches to run soccer fun days at half-term and Easter to raise further funds for the MNDA campaign. The next soccer fun days are being held on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th February at Frome Community College.
The fundraising continues with lots of events planned over the forthcoming months, with the next event being a quiz night on Friday 8th February at 7.30pm at Frome Rugby Club. Unfortunately, the last quiz night earlier this month, had to be cancelled due to the snow.
On Saturday 23rd February, The Deltaray’s, a high energy rhythm and blues band from Bristol are playing at Frome Football Club with a support disco. The Deltaray’s have played with the likes of Wilko Johnson and Dr Feelgood and tickets will be on sale soon.
There is a team of seven of the climbers running in the Bath Half Marathon at the beginning of March and the wife of one of the climbers, plus other family members including children, will be running in the family run on the same day.
MNDA, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland which funds and promotes global research into the disease and supports affected people.
