HEALTHCARE workers from the Frome area were presented with awards at a recent ceremony celebrating NHS workers across Somerset.
More than 200 members of staff from the Somerset Partnership NHS Trust were nominated across 12 categories.
The ‘Unsung Hero Staff Award’ was won by Sue Trott who works in minor injury units across the Mendip area.
Somerset NHS’s Victoria Eld said, “Sue was nominated for her selfless work in making sure Frome, Shepton Mallet and West Mendip MIUs shifts are covered and staff are supported. Sue is well known as a great source of advice and information and is considered the ‘Encyclopaedia Britannica’ of the MIU world.”
The ‘Team of the Year Award’ went to the Coleford and Beckington District Nurses for their work with a terminally ill young patient who was intent on staying at home for as long as she could.
Victoria said, “The team visited on their weekends, before and after their shifts to make sure the patient and her family were supported to allow her to die at home with her family around her.”
Dr Nick Broughton, chief executive of Somerset Partnership, congratulated nominees and award winners and said, “I am incredibly proud to recognise the dedication and commitment that is evident in these staff awards.
“Behind each award and every nomination is a humbling story of staff going to every effort to help their patients and doing everything possible to respect their wishes.
“I am pleased, on behalf of the trust board, to recognise the outstanding contribution and excellent care provided by these staff – they make a real difference to our patients’ lives.”
