CALLING all superhero and fantasy fans! Next weekend Frome will be taken over by Frome Comic Con and with a whole host of traders, exhibitors and special guests it’s not to be missed.
Following the success of the first ever Frome Comic Con last year, the event returns to the town on the weekend of 12th-13th August so make sure your outfit is ready to impress and get involved with the one of the highlights of the town’s calender.
Amongst the attractions will be an appearance by David Prowse, Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy; a Superhero Charity Football Match; a Superhero Story Time; Ghostbusters in the library and a Family Cosplay Ball.
Michelle Moss from Norté Promotions who organise Frome Comic Con said, “Last year was such a huge success and straight away we booked the dates for this year. We had visitors from across the country so we hope they come back to see us as this year we’ve extended the event across the whole weekend.
“It kicks off on Saturday at 12pm with a Superhero Charity Football Match. Frome Town FC and Bridport will go head to head in a bitter rivalry against good and evil – but who will come out on top? This is a great event for the whole family and the players will be dressed up so we’re encouraging the crowd to also come in fancy dress – but are you good or evil?
“It’s free entry but there will be donation buckets and money raised will go to Time Is Precious. Frome FM will be broadcasting live so if you can’t make it down, you can listen online.
“Also at 12pm, at Frome Library there will be Superhero Story Time with Word Up. There will be some fantastic activities relating to graphic novels and word treasure hunts around the town building up from the beginning of August. We have the Ghostbusters occupying the library as well as special fictional characters to read to the children.
“Then a special event for this year is our Opening Party Family Cosplay Ball. Be the first to see some of the action with Batman’s new ride from Podpadstudios and the hero/villains of GCUK.
“The evening is split into two time slots – the first is the family time of 5-7pm, Adults £5, Children £3. Then the second is adult only from 7.30pm priced at £10 each. Party in Wayne’s manor and expects some unexpected goings on. There is a licensed bar too!
“Each time slots have limited spaces of just 180 people and we are likely to sell out before the event so get your ticket now.
“Then the main events take place on Sunday 13th at the Cheese & Grain from 10am-4pm. There will be traders and exhibitors as well as our special guest David Prowse, Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy.”
The entertainment is spectacular with vehicles, costumers and activities filling the venue all day and all for just £4 entry.
“David Prowse will also be doing an exclusive Q&A session between 7-8pm but tickets are selling fast and there are only a few left so you’ll need to be quick.
“Also throughout the day other venues will be joining in with the Comic Con spirit and turning their venues into particular themes, including the Archangel as Star Wars, Cordero Lounge as DC and The Three Swans as Harry Potter.
“Frome’s New Venue are back with their Retro Gaming, Black Swan Arts will host comic book artists and writers and Covers Vinyl, Sam’s Kitchen Deli and Extra Life Video Game Bar will also be getting involved – not to mention all the streets to be occupied on the day with many visitors and cosplayers.
“The weekend will finish with a bang at Frome’s New Venue from 8.30pm – 2am with DJ’s, a fire performance from Nancy Norte as Wonder Woman, contortion from Twister Jamie as Riddler and much more.
“Tickets are only £5 and last entry is 10.30pm. Show your wristband on the door and it will be half price at only £2.50 to get into the party.
“Check out our Facebook page and our website www.nortepromotions.com/frome-comic-con to find out more and to buy your tickets.
“We can’t wait to see everyone dressed up and the whole town coming together. We hope everyone has a great time.”
