FROME’S Foodage4thought have been awarded a grant from Frome Town Council and Neighbourly, which is being used to fund two, six-week cooking, nutrition and wellbeing workshops at Critchill School from January.
Foodage4thought is a Community Interest Company (C.I.C) founded in May this year. Having taught cooking and nutrition in secondary schools for over 10 years, Ally from Foodage4thought wanted to start workshops for parents and carers who often don’t have the knowledge, skills or confidence to cook for themselves or their families.
Ally said, “The workshops will be exploring how we can eat well for less, which is so important in the current cost of living crisis.
“We have been part of the Frome Town Council ‘Big Green week’ where we ran ‘Meatfree Monday’ workshops and also participated in their ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ in association with Fair Frome and the Community fridge.
“We’ve compiled a survey to gain valuable insights into what people hope to gain from accessing the workshop courses. Those completing the survey can then express their interest in attending the course. We have had an overwhelming response this far, which confirms both the desire and need for these courses within the Frome community. It explores food shopping and eating habits within Frome.”
