With the final legal proceedings coming together, Frome Town Council will take ownership of the Old Showfield behind Frome Community Hospital over the course of the summer.
Chris Stringer, the council’s environment manager said, “This is really exciting for the town. We’re grateful to everyone involved that this is happening – it’s a fantastic space – and we want to work with the town in looking after it and hopefully making some improvements.
“On that, the transfer is coming with funding – another indication of the successful partnership work that’s behind this. We have about £45,000 available following the building of Frome Medical Practice – and we may be able to add to this from council reserves for the right project or projects too. So an exciting opportunity for the town to get involved with some big improvements.”
Sarah Russell, community projects officer at Frome Town Council said, “We’re following up on the excellent consultation work that took place in 2012. There were some great ideas that came out of this – summarised on our website at the moment. We just want to check that these ideas are still popular – and whether anyone has new ideas, perhaps from people new to the area. Then we’ll put all of the ideas together to see what we can deliver!”
Visit www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk or call in to the council’s office on Palmer Street to see the ideas and have your say on the future of the Showfield.
