FROME Concerts Group celebrated its 20th anniversary with its spring concert on Sunday 17th March which was a resounding success.
The event, at Rook Lane Chapel, saw the Creswick Quartet play music from Purcell, Beethoven and Ravel.
“Frome Concerts Group was delighted when Rafael Todes, who has recently moved to Frome, suggested the Creswick Quartet play for a special celebration concert to mark the 20 years that Frome Concerts Group has been going,” explained the group’s chair, Mary Gatliffe.
“We have had great feedback as always. One audience member felt it was the crowning glory of the series and proclaimed us extremely fortunate to have them!
“Rook Lane Chapel, where the concerts take place every spring and autumn, was packed out with an enthusiastic audience excited to be hearing these very special musicians.”
Frome Concerts Group is known for presenting high-flying, professional music graduates from top classical music colleges in the UK as well as hosting established, world-class musicians.
“The Creswick Quartet, though newly formed, is made up of four classical musicians with astonishing credentials,” says Mary. “They have played in the world’s top chamber groups and orchestras: Bradley Creswick has been leader of the Northern Sinfonia and Philharmonia Orchestras; Rafael Todes was a member of the Allegri Quartet for over 20 years; Graham Oppenheimer was a founder member of the Schidlof Quartet; Kirsten Jenson was awarded Best British Cellist in the 2016 international music competition Grand Prize Virtuoso and has also been a member of the Ragazze Quartet.
“We were so excited to have them in Frome and overwhelmed by the music. But really importantly, the musicians gave us great feedback too.
“They commented on the wonderful atmosphere and audience and said the venue was fabulous, so another success all round for Frome Concerts Group and for Frome!”
