East Mendip Green Party will host ‘Connected Frome’, a free public meeting, at Frome Youth and Community Centre on Thursday 22nd February at 7.30pm.
At this meeting, the town’s Green councillors will offer insights into the issues they are dealing with, how they impact Frome’s efforts to be a green town and what progress is being made to ‘join up’ the different levels of local government (town, district and county) to help Frome thrive.
In May 2017, Frome elected the first ever Green councillors to Somerset County Council, Martin Dimery in Frome East and John Clarke in Frome West. They joined the town’s three Green district councillors – Shane Collins, Stina Falle and Des Harris – who were elected to Mendip District in 2015.
Cllr Dimery said, “Since May, Green county councillors have been working to raise the profile of Frome at Somerset County Council to ensure it is not overlooked in public consultations.”
The ‘Connected Frome’ event will be a chance for Frome residents to find out how Green councillors have been working together for the community, to ask questions and to participate in discussions on important local issues. Among other issues, councillors will discuss the challenges of opposing austerity and its effects on local services; the campaign for Somerset County Council’s pension fund to stop investing in fossil fuels; and addressing the shortage of affordable housing in the Frome area.
Ahead of the meeting, Cllr Harris said, “I’m looking forward to this opportunity of talking about my work on Mendip’s planning board and the housing situation in and around Frome.”
Cllr Clarke added, “There are real challenges to making a difference as a local councillor, but the real truth is you cannot achieve change without working and engaging the community and all local party elected representatives. Working together and collaboratively is the key to success.”
‘Connected Frome’, will take place on Thursday 22nd February at 7.30pm, at Frome Youth and Community Centre, Vallis Road, Frome, BA11 3EF. Free entry, all welcome.
