How Frome can thrive as a green town in Somerset’ is the subject of a public meeting at the Cheese and Grain on Thursday 20th April.
At the free meeting, Independents for Frome town councillors Peter Macfadyen, Mel Usher and Jean Boulton will join the Green Party’s district councillors Shane Collins, Des Harris and Stina Falle, and county candidates Martin Dimery, John Clarke and Pepita Collins.
They will discuss how to improve Frome’s links with Somerset County Council ahead of county elections on 4th May, consider ideas to ensure Frome receives its fair share of resources from County Hall and how Frome’s green and independent approach can be supported at Mendip District too.
The meeting will be interactive, with a chance for the audience to ask questions and make their own suggestions.
“Frome has definitely lost out in the last few years when resources have been distributed by the county. We are always at the back of the queue,” said Mel Usher.
The meeting will be a chance for people to discuss ideas about how to improve the situation. John Clarke, Green Party candidate for Frome West at the upcoming county election said, “It’s important to have an open, accountable and transparent local government, working with and empowering people.”
The ‘Connecting Frome’ meeting is organised by East Mendip Green Party, and will be held upstairs at the Cheese & Grain on Thursday 20th April at 7.30pm. It will be chaired by Michael Gay of Wanstrow Parish Council.
![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
