Morag McLaren will perform her “Original One Woman Show” at Frome’s Cooper Hall on Thursday 25th May to help raise money for Rotary’s ‘End Polio Now’ campaign and celebrate the 100th year of the Rotary Foundation (Rotary’s own charity). Local singer Yvonne Lawley will also be singing as a support act.

Hugh Deed, chairman of the Rotary foundation committee for the Frome Selwood club reports, “Starting in 1985, Rotary was instrumental in initiating the programme to rid the world of polio and since then, the number of cases has dropped from over 1,000 new cases per day across over 100 countries, to now being just five cases so far in 2017 in just two countries. But unless it is eradicated this crippling disease, which the UK was declared free from in 1982, will come back and spread again.
“The WHO (World Health Organization) has decide that vaccinations have to continue until there have been no cases in the country for five years. Every pound Rotary collects is matched two for one by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and those three pounds will vaccinate about 10 children against this disabling, debilitating and deforming disease.
“So come to a great evening’s entertainment and know that the proceeds are all going to this very important effort; to rid the world of polio.”
