Core.. what peely good day!

Visitors and families celebrated everything appley at Apple Day on Sunday 20th October, held again this year at the Community Orchard in the Old Showfield.

The event was organised by Frome Town Council  who said, “The weather thankfully held out and great fun was had by all with apple pressing, chestnut planting, apple printing, face painting, peeling competitions, bunting making and lots more. There was even an hilarious gurning competition hosted by Rare Species’ Mutt & Jeff. The Talk Tent was incredibly popular, with talks from several experts raising awareness in bee re-wilding projects, local market gardens and an interactive foraging walk and talk.  And to stave off the autumnal chills, The Crumpeteers and Le Van Blanc were on hand with toasty tea and crumpets and warming mulled cider.”

Deputy Mayor, Anita Collier, who was on duty pressing apples said, “It’s not as easy as it looks, but what a perfect way to use up our autumnal bounty of apples. Everyone had a fun day and there were some very informative and interesting talks – I’m looking forward to next year already. We are delighted to announce that the winner of the apple peel competition was Kieran.  And after some strong contenders for the gurning competition this year,  let’s see if we can become record breaking gurners next year!”
