Active and In Touch Frome, which works to combat loneliness and isolation in the community, is seeking applications from individuals interested in joining their Board of Trustees as a Treasurer to help guide and advise them on financial concerns.
Active and In Touch Frome has one employee and two associated staff who support and supervise approximately 70 local volunteers who are available to visit, talk with, and gently support people with getting involved in groups or activities. Their members have become isolated or out of touch with the community around them.
Recent research has shown that loneliness doesn’t just make people unhappy, but that it has an effect on mortality too. Loneliness is also associated with poor mental health and, more surprisingly, with conditions such as heart disease, hypertension and dementia.
“Once people become depressed and anxious they can find it increasingly hard to re-connect with society, becoming more and more isolated’ says the group. “Poverty and ill-health are key triggers for isolation but it can affect anyone, including those from affluent backgrounds.”
Chair of Trustees, Julia di Castiglione, said: “In December 2018 partnership funding ceased. This has offered our registered charity new opportunities to change the structure and processes for our organisation. We are now looking for a Treasurer to join our team of trustees.
“The board of Trustees currently consists of 7 dedicated, focused members with a range of backgrounds and skill sets. The role of the Treasurer will be to maintain an overview of our charity’s financial affairs: to ensure its financial viability: and that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

In 2017, Active and In Touch Frome became a registered Charity, No.1172434. The charity receives support from Frome Town Council and has an office at Frome Town Hall, Christchurch St West, Frome, BA11 1EB.
