A NEW set of benches and planters have been installed in the town’s Market Place following requests from local business owners and residents to open up the space and make it more attractive.
The benches and planters that surround the Boyle Cross monument have been locally made and designed to fit the area that is on a slope, giving people that chance to sit, rest their legs and admire the town centre. The planters are due to be filled with plants to attract wildlife.
Frome resident, Callum said, “I really like these benches! They are a nice addition to this area and give people the opportunity to sit, meet or admire the town centre. I’ll definitely be using them when I have a coffee or come to the market!”
Lead councillor for Frome town centre, Nick Dove said, “The area around the Boyle Cross in the Market Place is recognised by many as the centre of Frome. Many local business owners and residents have been asking for the space to be made more attractive to visitors and local residents. We have now installed bespoke planters and seating at both ends of the space; these have been locally made and are designed to fit the area – and given the slope, I think the engineers have done a great job!
“The planters will be filled with a range of plants to attract wildlife, absorb carbon and create an environment where people can sit and admire the beautiful buildings surrounding the Boyle Cross monument.
“We have made sure that stall holders can still operate from the space and I’m confident that this area will now encourage more visitors to spend time visiting Frome and exploring the wonderful range of independent businesses in the town.
“Keeping this space beautiful will take care and time and I’m very interested in speaking to anyone who would like to volunteer to help Frome Town Council to maintain the plants over the coming months. To contact cllr Nick Dove about this, email ndove@frometowncouncil .gov.uk
