The Frome College GCSE certificate presentation at Frome Memorial Theatre on Friday 24th November, was a huge success.
All students who sat their GCSE exams in the summer, together with their families, attended the formal event where their exam certificates were presented.
During the presentation, principal, Ms Reynolds, expressed her congratulations to all the students on fantastic exam results this year, and to their families for the tremendous amount of support that goes on at home to help the students achieve them. Alongside the presentations, students performed a variety of musical accompaniment on the stage.
Jane Davis, communications officer at the college said, “We were delighted this year, to welcome Somerset County Cricket captain, Tom Abell as our guest of honour, who was introduced to the audience by our chair of governors, Max Wide. Tom gave an inspirational speech to the audience about his career and his path through school.
“He also spoke about the family support he had as a teenager to enable him to follow his dreams, and at the age of 23, became Somerset’s County captain. The top-order batsman was born and brought up in Taunton and has played right through the Somerset age group teams before graduating through the Somerset Academy.
“He enjoyed a highly successful career at Taunton School where in 2012 he captained the 1st XI and scored 1,156 runs. He also broke many batting records, and was named Wisden Schools’ Cricketer of the Year for 2012. In 2017, Tom scored 572 runs in 13 championship matches, an average of 26 with a top score of 96!”
Tom said, “It was a great pleasure to be involved with the Frome College awards. It was very inspiring to meet so many talented young people and to be able to share in their success. The students have all worked extremely hard to get to this stage, and it was great to hear the exceptional array of musical talent performed on the day.”
Jane Davis continued, “Following the formal presentation in the theatre, refreshments were available in the Assembly Rooms, allowing everyone the opportunity to meet and catch up with friends, former teachers and guests.
“The afternoon was enjoyed by all, in celebration of a highly successful year for Frome College.
“We would like to thank Tom Abell for travelling from Taunton to be our special guest. Our congratulations go to all the students on their outstanding achievements, and we look forward to another successful year at Frome College!”
