FROME couple, Rowena Mayo-Candy and Robin Mayo, have completed their challenge to run 800 miles in six months for the Air Ambulance.
Rowena and Robin held an event to celebrate the end of their challenge and to raise more money for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, on Saturday 28th September.
Demelza Meaden, the owner and podiatrist from The Foot Clinic, Frome (Christchurch St West) joined them and donated a pair of running shoes and a £100 cash donation.
Rowena said, “Demelza has been on hand with lots of advice for blisters and sore feet as our miles added up!
“Our total miles within the six months came to 1,131 – way more than we planned! We have reached our original £800 fundraising target (we were hoping to raise £1 for every mile we ran) and donations are still coming in.
“An unofficial part of the challenge is that we ran a marathon at the end of it all, on Sunday 6th October. It was hard! I can safely say that I never want to do it again.
“Robin was feeling a little unwell but still came in under 4 hours, which is a fantastic achievement. And I came in in just under 5 hours as planned.
“It’s been a huge effort fitting it all in, but we feel a great sense of achievement and are looking forward to handing our sponsorship over to the charity.”
