Local group, Crazy for Uke, recently performed at the Emma Sheppard Centre, a day service for people living with dementia.
Research shows that music and singing has a positive impact on people living with dementia as it helps them to reminisce or join in by singing along. This was certainly the case at the Emma Sheppard Centre in Frome, with one of the customers claiming that Crazy for Uke’s performance brought back memories from his time in the army.
Following their engaging performance, members of the group stopped to chat with the customers and staff, and shared a cup of tea.
Community team supervisor, Jo Perkins said, “It was a lovely experience and we would like to thank Crazy for Uke for coming to perform. It was a joy to look around the room and see so many people engaged with the music by singing or tapping their toes. If any local groups or talented individuals would like to come and share their skills with us at the Emma Sheppard Centre, this would be greatly appreciated.”
