A well-known creative organisation in Frome is teaming up with a retail giant to promote a national initiative later this month.
Frome Writers’ Collective will be promoting National Crime Reading Month, which runs throughout June, at Sainsbury’s Wessex Fields store on Saturday 25th.
The event, which takes place between 10am and 3pm, will see several Frome Writers Collective members, who write in the Crime/Mystery genre, at the front of store, talking about their books and crime writing in general.
One of the FWC authors appearing will be David Lassman, who co-writes the acclaimed Regency Detective series, set in nineteenth century Bath.
The latest novel in the series, The Circle of Sappho, which is also partly set in Frome, was launched at Hunting Raven bookshop on the first of this month to coincide with the national initiative.
David said: “The proliferation of various crime series and cop shows on television proves how successful the genre is with the public, but reading about fictional crime is just as popular.
“We aim to promote this fact, while at the same time raising the profile of the Frome Writers Collective within the town.”
The Frome Writers Collective was officially launched two years this month (June) and has as its patron local publisher and the man who discovered J.K. ‘Harry Potter’ Rowling, Barry Cunningham.
The not-for-profit organisation, whose membership is nearing 100, is behind several events in the forthcoming Frome Festival, including a Small Publishers Fair on July 2nd.
Although the authors’ books will not be available for sale on the day, if you bring an already purchased copy, they will be only too happy to sign it.
