Affinity Wellbeing took CrossFit UVA to The Super Human Games on 2nd June.
The Games is the UK’s largest functional fitness competition and formed part of Bristol’s Festival of Sport this year. The competition involves individuals and same sex pairs taking part in a serious of workouts, with 650 athletes from across the UK and Europe taking part in 2018.
Twenty-eight teams from Affinity Wellbeing, an award-winning gym based in Frome, competed at the games – making it the biggest contingent from any gym to be represented there.
The day consisted of five gruelling workouts, of which Katharine Roffey placed 2nd in the Super Human Games Ladies Open, and other top ranking teams from Affinity came 4th in Masters Ladies Pairs, 12th in Masters Males Pairs, 22nd in Ladies Pairs and 11th in Males Pairs Opens. Many of the teams ranked in the top three positions for some events too.
Arriving home at 9.30pm after a gruelling day starting at 8am, 5 hours sleep was had before 15 members were back at it again, helping the Frome World Record rowing attempt to be smashed.
Paul Roffey of Affinity Wellbeing said, “All 56 athletes who took part from CrossFit UVA have really done themselves, the gym and their home town proud. We are already looking forward to the 2019 Games now, which as ever we will use as a great motivator for our members to train hard and smash goal sets should they wish to compete! We were even more blown away by people’s drive and enthusiasm after such an event to help Frome set a world record too and glad we could be part of it, no matter how much our bodies were broken.”
