THE community spirit of Frome has brought FromeDrama and professional swing-dance teacher Gordon Lloyd-West, from Swing Jazz Jive, together to create some memorable 1950s dances for the next FromeDrama production, Home I’m Darling.
Organisers said, “Laura Wade’s award-winning play, Home I’m Darling, is much anticipated by local audiences, as Frome Drama is one of the world’s first amateur production companies to stage this witty, stylish and thought-provoking play. The cast is keen to prove to its audience that the actors don’t have two left feet, practicing dance routines whilst learning lines and creating theatre joy.
“Home I’m Darling tells the story of Judy Martin who is determined to create a perfect 1950’s home, complete with sparkling windows, gingham curtains and vintage fridge, but things are not as perfect as they first appear…”
“In addition to taking this fabulous dance-style to the stage in their upcoming show at the Merlin Theatre, the drama club are offering a one-off workshop, open to all members to take part, on 9th March at the Station Approach Studio, in Frome.”
FromeDrama chairman Richard Thomas said, “We realised we’d need some professional help and were delighted when Gordon said he was available. All members of FromeDrama, including those not involved in the play are invited to join in an all-levels-welcome workshop led by Gordon, to give them a flavour of what to expect from the production. It’s going to be a great social event for the club!
“Gordon is a well-known teacher of swing, jazz and jive who teaches classes in Frome, alongside Tamsin Marshall of Swing Time Frome, as well as in Bradford-on-Avon. Since starting in January his Wednesday classes at Station Studio are proving to be so popular that he has scheduled additional social Swing Dance sessions.”
Performances of Home I’m Darling will be at the Merlin Theatre on Thursday 30th and Friday 31st March and Saturday 1st April at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now via the Merlin Theatre website, merlintheatre .co.uk.

![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
