THE number one ranked darts player in the world and reigning world champion, Luke ‘Cool Hand’ Humphries, is coming to Frome this summer to face off against the very best darts players the town has to offer.
Luke, who is also the reigning darts World Grand Prix champion, the Grand Slam champion and the Players’ Championship Finals champion, will be bringing his World Championship trophy with him when he makes a special appearance at the Frome Town FC clubhouse on Sunday 7th July for a two-part exhibition.
Luke will be joined by the rising star of the South West, Dom ‘The Tower’ Taylor, Steve ‘Bomber’ Brown and referee Owen Binks. The overall winner of the Frome College darts league will also face off against Luke at the event.
Paul Starr, who has organised the event and will be the MC, is hoping that this exhibition will be a catalyst to spur darts players in Frome into becoming professionals.
“Luke is the best role model that young darts players could hope to learn from as he’s gone from wanting to give up darts all together to become the world number one due to his own dedication and will to succeed,” Paul explained. “He’s a great role model, and I’ve been told that there are some exciting players coming through Frome College’s darts league, so this will be a fantastic opportunity for them to learn from the very best in the game.
“Having someone of his calibre wanting to come to Frome is great for the town and I hope that he inspires people locally to get more into darts, or to consider it more seriously, as it would be fantastic to have a local champion we can all get behind.
“There’s not many sports where if you win your local tournament you then have the option to play the world champion! This has proved to be so popular that we are now doing two shows in one day! This sort of thing doesn’t happen very often, so we are encouraging everyone to get their tickets now.”
Tickets start at £20 and there is the option to buy platinum tickets which would include a nine-dart challenge – the winner of which will play Luke on stage. Tickets can be bought by calling 07917 442054.
