Selwood Academy hosted their annual Awards evening on Wednesday the 28th June.
This year the prizes were awarded by Mrs Shonogh Pilgrim, Head Teacher of Ansford Academy Castle Cary, who gave an inspiring speech on a theme of “Are you a World Changer?”
A special award entitled “The Pride of Selwood” was presented to the guest of honour Daryl Allinson who left Selwood in July to attend Frome College. Daryl is currently recovering from his operation to treat the rarest form of leukaemia.
Mrs Sheila Gore, Frome Mayor, presided over the evening and the musicians from Selwood provided songs, instrumental solos and the choir closed the evening with an uplifting rendition of “Can you feel the love tonight”.
Mrs Gore had also visited the Academy earlier in the afternoon to celebrate the many differing community projects run by the Selwood pupils.
Many representatives of local community groups who donated the prizes also attended the evening.
Head Teacher Mrs Jean Hopegood said, “This has been a wonderful evening and it is a delight to recognise so many achievements, not just for academic standards but for citizenship, community support and action and charitable works. I am so proud to present Daryl with his special award. As I shared with all those present he is the bravest boy I have ever had the privilege to meet.”
