Frome Diamonds 40 Holt Black 32
DIAMONDS sealed a well fought victory over Holt, to keep their chances of staying in the Premier division on track.
Defensively, Diamonds started well, with Bev Chapman and Emily Pascoe securing many turnovers and making the Holt shooters take long range shots. Diamonds, sponsored by Dennis Maps, were ahead by 8 goals to 3 after the end of the first stanza.
Upping their attacking game with the defence still on point, Georgina Southwell made some telling passes into Lauren Wilkinson who turned these into goals. Forging ahead, they led by 21 goals to 8 at the end of the second stanza.
Making changes at half time did not affect Diamonds and Alice Baker, making a welcome return to netball, grew in confidence in the shooting circle as the match progressed.
Southwell put in another commanding performance which saw her pick up the Player of the Match and the Players’ Player awards as she effortlessly picked off passes in the defensive end and turned them into attack.
Diamonds let the lead slip towards the end as the Holt shooter found her form, but the result was never in doubt as Diamonds led from start to finish. Leading from the front in this match was captain Georgina Guy, who put in another good shift, always putting in a 100% performance, but this time around all the team did the same, with no one having a bad game.
