Sat. 31st August. West of England Premier Cricket League – Somerset Taunton Deane 286-9 Frome 204 all out
Rain delayed play at Taunton Deane on the final match of the season, resulting in a 47 over match.
Frome won the toss and elected to bowl. Barton (3-54) was first to wear down the Taunton Deane’s batsmen, followed by M Sanger (1-34), R Croker (1-49), Watts (1-62) and Lett (1-35). Veal (2-23) also came into the attack and dismissed Taunton Deane’s Williams after amassing 78 runs. Frome failed to bowl the opposition out resulting in a 287 target for the showmen to chase down after the break.
Frome’s batmen got off to a slow start with S Croker (4) falling early. Lewis (26) continued with Lett (11). But it was a 100 partnership between R Croker (91) and P Sanger (39) which gave Frome a brief moment of hope at rescuing the final game, before Croker was caught attempting another marvellous 6 just before a fantastic century.
This left bowlers M Sanger (9) and Barton (6no) to chase the remaining runs until Taunton Deane’s S Loud wrapped up the final wicket with a vicious bouncer aimed at Sanger.
Despite this disappointing loss, Frome end the season as champions.
