Discover Frome Information Point opened its doors on market day last Sunday.
Open a week earlier than previously advertised, Mayor Sheila Gore joined councilors and council staff, and Black Swan Trustees and staff to formally open the information point in time for the many visitors who come into town on Independent Market day.
The Information Point, intended to be ready in time to support the Frome Festival is not intended to be an all encompassing information service instead specifically focusing on the arts, trails and events. Enquiries regarding services should continue to be directed to the Town Hall where the information service team headed by Tricia Muggridge will continue to be based. There is also a phone link at the Discover Frome Information Point for any enquiries that need to be met at the Town Hall.
Councillor Jean Boulton who is a sponsor of this project said, “There had been an drop off in visitor numbers to the service once it had moved to the Town Hall which we felt was due to location. By restoring this service to the centre of town we hope to better serve the public. It is also excellent to renew the information service’s relationship with Black Swan Arts in the hope that we will better serve the Arts.”
The Information Point is for residents and visitors who are interested in information regarding the arts and events in Frome and is part of a plan to better inform people of the amazing array of events and experiences that the town has to offer. This will include revitalising the website Discover Frome to better represent the town and the performing arts and a partnership with the List to produce a substantial town guide or annual.
Amanda Sheridan, Chair of Black Swan Arts said, “We very much look forward to welcoming the Discover Frome Information Point and feel this is an exciting and forward-thinking opportunity. It places a vital service to residents and visitors right in the centre of Frome and the Centre will benefit from the boost in footfall. Here’s to a successful summer ahead!”
Manned by volunteers, the information point will be open throughout the summer months. If you are interested in volunteering please contact flahertyl@frometowncouncil.gov.uk or call the Town Hall on 01373 465757.
