Last year, Frome Town Rotary decided to forego their Christmas meal and donate instead to Fair Frome. This year, members plan to give up their Christmas meal again.
The Rotary members’ decision last year followed a visit to the club by Bob Ashford, chair of the trustees of Fair Frome, who spoke about the work of the charity. Rotary members were provided with a shopping list by Fair Frome and visited Asda in their Christmas jumpers and hats, to donate at least the equivalent cost of their Christmas meal in food.
Frome Town Rotary say, “This year, we will be doing the same and we encourage others to think about doing the same or making a donation for those in need this Christmas. Fair Frome have collection boxes at Asda, Tesco Express on Stonebridge, Barnado’s, Wholefood Shop, Budgens, Coop in the Westway, Coop funeral Care at Badcox and Sainsbury’s. They would really appreciate treats such as Christmas puddings, tinned fruit, tinned custard, tinned salmon, tinned ham, Pringles, savoury snacks, chocolates for adults/children, biscuits, chocolate/assorted/shortbread and Christmas crackers.
“Any Christmas goodies need a sell by date no earlier than January 2020. So that Fair Frome can deliver these items in time for Christmas, they need them by December 10th.”
“It is a small thing we are doing but we know that through the excellent work of Fair Frome, that the food will go to families who need and appreciate something extra at Christmas,” said Karl Waldeck Lee, president of Frome Town Rotary.
