A team of over 25 people will be taking on the Three Peaks Challenge later this year where they will hike up and down Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon all in aid of celebrating Why (We Hear You’s) 25th anniversary (formerly known as Positive Action on Cancer PAC).
Leading up to the event, from 31st August – 1st September, the team is running several fundraisers to help raise £25,000 for WHY.
Jumble Sale – 23rd February
The team reports, “Our next fundraiser is a jumble on 23rd February between 12-3pm at St Catharine’s Parish Hall so come along and grab some bargains, buy some raffle tickets to give you a chance of winning some fab prizes, have a drink and some lovely cakes to support the local charity We Hear You (WHY) the cancer counselling charity.
“If anyone who would like to donate anything from raffle prizes, clothing, household, toys, books, DVDs, or cakes for the day please contact us – Alice Starr of Starr Fitness via facebook.”
Alice says, “On the 2nd June 2018 I rallied up a Starr Fitness team of family and friends to help support WHY and take part in the Frome World Record Row attempt which we smashed. Buzzing from this amazing event, everyone was asking what we could do next, so I looked up WHY’s challenge events and I found the Three Peaks Challenge – a challenge I believed many of my friends and family could achieve with training, determination and belief – especially with the support of a big team completing it together.
“So 26 of us are taking on this new challenge, which is amazing as it’s the 25th anniversary of the WHY charity, so I was wanting to get a team of 25 (but to go above is even more amazing.)
“We have months ahead to train, prepare and raise money for WHY, so on the 31st August we will be on our way to completing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and then to Snowdon in Wales all completed by 1st September. Trekking time will be 15 hours or less.
“The team involved in the jumble sale are Alice Starr – Starr Fitness (team leader), Alison Miller, Juantelle Matthews, Abi Lyons, Bex Shore, Emma Moxon and Lyndsay Mosley.
We Hear You (WHY) provides a free professional counselling service for anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer or another life-threatening condition. This includes family, friends, colleagues and carers as well as patients.
WHY recognises that the need for emotional support to cope with the traumatic experience of a life-threatening condition has no time limit, so our service is available to anyone who is or has been affected or bereaved by a life-threatening condition at any point, even if the experience was a long time ago.
