Frome RFC 19 – 24 Beaconsfield RFC
FROME welcomed Beaconsfield to Gypsy Lane, looking for a second win of the season.
Frome started positively, with the forwards carrying strongly, led by the returning Will Button and Harry Bridle. Kowever, a dropped ball in midfield was pounced on by the visiting centre, who ran 50 metres to score under the posts.
Undeterred, Frome continued to build through the phases and set up attacking plays on the opposition line.
Eventually the pressure paid off when Inside Centre, Mike Rutt burst through the opposition line to score under the posts, duly converted by 1st XV debutant Ben Eley to level the scores up.
The home side continued to press and looked to score again, with a break from Full Back, Rob Sully. A succession of penalties close to the Beaconsfield line kept the visitors pinned back, with Frome being held up twice on the try line.
Frome continued to attack and after a number of attempts close to the line, Flanker Button crashed through the would-be tacklers to touch down from close range.
Frome turned around leading 14-7 at half time, however a penalty gave the visitors some momentum; a cross field kick to score in the corner and another try turned the game around and saw Beaconsfield leading 14-24.
However, Frome dug deep and after some great carries by the forwards, including Elliott Bowler and Stevan Randell, an opportunity was created out wide for Winger Cory Plumridge on his 1st XV debut who, despite the attention of several defenders, dotted down in the corner to secure a losing bonus point for Frome.
A terrific performance by Frome who dominated large parts of the game against a side established at this level.
Frome travel to league leaders Bracknell RFC on Saturday.
