Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together is once again looking forward to welcoming guests to Frome Town Football Club on Christmas Day.
This is the sixth year that volunteers have come together to organise this special event, a free festive community celebration for anyone who wants company on Christmas Day.
Last year all ages were welcomed, from 9 months to 95 years, and 170 people were fed a full Christmas lunch and more than 200 people volunteered their time in the lead-up through December and on the day.
Volunteers provide transport to and from the event and a team of friendly faces welcome everyone on arrival and introduce them to table hosts who make sure everyone has a good time. A delicious three-course lunch with all the trimmings will be prepared in the kitchen on site, with a team of eager waiters serving tables. A variety of music and activities will entertain guests, finishing with a live broadcast of the Queen’s Speech.
“This Frome event is quite unique, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds together, along with families, couples and individuals – there are no complicated criteria or restrictions – a true community gathering for everyone,” said Emma Warren. one of the organisers.
“Any guests interested in coming along should go to Frome Library and complete a simple form or telephone Margaret on 465418. There are still some spaces for volunteers on the day, particularly with transport, hosting tables, clearing up and even planning for the next event in 2017!
“Please look out for the team who, together with Fair Frome, will be collecting donations at the Christmas Extravaganza lights switch on (Friday 2nd December) and at The Frome Independent market (Sunday 4th December). The event is free to attend and funded solely by generous local support and donations.”
