Global Rock band Eagles of Death Metal are performing in Frome in November.
The band from Palm Desert in California will be playing at the Cheese and Grain on Monday 23rd November, as part of a special anniversary tour celebrating 20 years of their iconic album ‘Death by Sexy.’
“Founded by Joshua Homme, of Queens of the Stone Age and best friend Jessie Hughes, the band, despite its name, is not a death metal band with the name intended to be humorous,” said the Cheese and Grain.
“The band’s live performances are a sight to be seen. Jessie Hughes is known for his over-the-top stage histrionics and evangelistic interaction with his fans.”
EODM has released four studio albums to date – Peace Love Death Metal, Death By Sexy, Heart On, and Zipper Down – and has toured the world extensively over the past two decades with a sound that is a combination of ‘bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drumbeats and Canned Heat vocals.’
Its current touring lineup includes Jessie Hughes, Leah Bluestein on drums, Scott Shiflett on guitar and Dustin Douglas on bass.
“Joshua Homme experienced huge success with Queens of The Stone Age but returned to Eagles of Death Metal in 2004 to release their debut, ‘Peace Love Death Metal’, in March 2004,” added the Cheese and Grain.
“Songs like ‘I Only Want You’ and ‘Miss Alissa’ from the album were used in TV commercials and the album became a source for film, video game and movie trailers.
“The band followed up their debut with ‘Death By Sexy’ in 2006 and ‘Heart On’ in 2008. After years of touring the US, Europe and the rest of the world, the band went back to the studio and started work on ‘Zipper Down’. That album eventually saw the light of day in autumn 2015.
“While the band was on stage at the Bataclan in Paris, on Nov. 13, 2015, terrorists stormed the venue and attacked the audience. Only three weeks later, the band returned to the stage with U2 in Paris in their first concert appearance since the attack.
“In December 2015, the band announced the full resumption of their European tour, which they had renamed the ‘Nos Amis Tour’ (‘Our Friends Tour’), which included a date at the Olympia in Paris on 16th February. Ticket holders from the November show at the Bataclan were invited to attend the Paris concert for free.
“A documentary directed by Colin Hanks about the band and the aftermath of the Bataclan attack, titled Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends), premiered on HBO in early 2017.
“The following year, Eagles of Death Metal scored the movie Super Troopers 2. ‘Eagles of Death Metal Present Boots Electric Performing The Best Songs We Never Wrote’ was released in June of 2019, featuring 13 covers of songs that have inspired Jessie Hughes over the years. The band completed a sold-out headline tour of Europe following the album’s release.”
Programme, production and marketing manager for Cheese and Grain, Rob Dahl said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be welcoming the legendary Eagles of Death Metal to Frome this November.
“For a town of our size, having a band of their international standing choose to play here as part of the 20th anniversary tour for their biggest record is incredibly exciting. It’s a real statement moment, not just for the venue but for Frome as a whole.
“What makes this show particularly special is that it isn’t a one-off date or a warm-up, it’s actually the final night of their European tour. That means Frome and the Cheese and Grain are firmly on the international touring map.
“For a globally recognised American rock band to close out their European run here speaks volumes about the reputation the venue has built and the audiences we attract.
“There’s definitely a noticeable influx of major American rock acts heading our way at the moment. With the likes of Black Stone Cherry, Alien Ant Farm, and Drowning Pool all coming through this year as well, it feels like Frome is becoming a real hub for big guitar-driven shows.
“That momentum is fantastic for local music fans, and it also brings wider cultural and economic benefits to the town, drawing visitors in, supporting local businesses, and reinforcing Frome’s reputation as a vibrant place for live music. We can’t wait for what promises to be a brilliant night.”
A brand-new studio album is in the works and the band have been continuing to tour worldwide.
