EDVENTURE Frome is hosting a free event at the Silk Mill on Thursday 2nd May from 6.30pm to 9pm called ‘beautiful resistance’ which aims to use the arts to encourage and develop creativity as a non-violent response to life in the West Bank, part of Palestinian territories.
The general director of Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Centre in the Aida Refugee camp in Bethlehem, Dr Abdelfattah Abusrour, will be in attendance.
Organisers say, “Since October 7th the Aida camp in Bethlehem has been in virtual lockdown. 66% of the population is under 24 and unemployment is running currently at 90%. In spite of this, Alrowwad continues to offer hope and promote self-respect to young people through their arts programmes, which include training in drama, music, dance, filmmaking, visual arts and photography.
“Frome has a vibrant arts community and a reputation as a resilient town that looks beyond its borders for inspiration and ideas on social issues. On 2nd May we hope to bring the work of Alrowwad together with the creativity of Frome.
“As well as hearing about life in Aida refugee camp right now, we will spend the bulk of the evening exploring possible collaborations and building meaningful partnerships between Alrowwad and those in attendance. We are expecting a moving, inspiring and creative evening.”
Dr. Abdelfattah Abusrour said, “Everybody is a change-maker. Nobody has the right to say, ‘I can’t do anything’, otherwise every day that comes will continue to be worse than the day that goes. This is not a heritage that anyone can be proud to leave to our children and the generations to come. Alrowwad seeks to create a Palestinian society free of violence and respectful of human rights and values.”
This is a free event with a buffet to purchase.
