Women are invited to join Edventure’s new course next month, titled Enterprising Women, to help turn their projects into reality.
As a non-profit organisation, Edventure offers courses, events and programmes to help develop social community enterprises in Frome.
“More women than ever before are choosing to work for themselves, citing greater control over hours, location of work and work-life balance as top reasons,” explained James Wallis, a member of Edventure.
“The Rose Review (2019) found that the UK economy could unlock up to £250 billion of new value if women are supported to start and scale businesses at the same rate as men. Yet only one in three UK entrepreneurs are female—a gap equivalent to approximately 1.1 million missing businesses. Key challenges include accessing funding, overcoming cultural barriers and a perceived lack of entrepreneurial skills and confidence.
“Starting this February, Enterprising Women is designed to support women from all backgrounds and life stages. The course foregrounds women’s own experiences, values and skills as the starting point for turning their ideas into reality. The programme offers tools, skills and knowledge—from personal resilience to business planning, fundraising and marketing—and places the emphasis on learning by doing. Participants will become part of a community of supportive peers to help them feel more confident and less alone on their enterprising journey.
“The course is based at the Edventure Hub in Frome and runs on Fridays from 7th February 2025 to 27th June 2025. It is designed to fit around the school day, from 9.15am to 2.45pm, with additional hours determined by participants.”
Edventure has a successful track record of running courses that help people bring their ideas to life, such as the UK’s first Community Fridge.
A previous Enterprising Women student described the course as “a creative way to be entrepreneurial. Intuitive in its delivery, with deep and resilient processes, it’s given me clarity, vision and direction.”
Enterprising Women is a free course for Somerset residents (excluding BANES) on lower incomes or those who fall into other priority areas for support, thanks to funding from Somerset Council. The course is also open to all women at a cost of £880.
If cost is a barrier, Edventure encourages applicants to email hello@edventurefrome.org to explore options.
James said, “Enterprising Women isn’t just a course; it is an invitation to join a supportive community of women making a positive impact through entrepreneurship.”
