RUNNERS are gearing up to compete in this year’s Frome Half Marathon, 10k and 5k running races with entry to the event now open.
The half marathon and the 10k and 5k races will take place on Sunday 17th July at 10am from Frome Football Ground. Last year’s event saw a record number of entries with 815 athletes running through the streets of the town and organisers are expecting the same this year.
Race director Georgie Starkie said, “We are receiving a steady stream of entries but as usual we expect the event to receive its limit of 1,000 entries and sell out.
“This year we have been asked to host a regional inter-county event and will be welcoming county teams from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Avon and Wiltshire. It’s great to see the race so well recognised by the running community. We are working really hard to make some improvements to the event at the moment. The website is being re-launched any day now and we are looking at ways to improve road and traffic management on the day.”
Chair of the organising committee Nicola Player said, “Sign ups for the race are open, so it’s time to register and get those training plans sorted.
“We are very pleased to be holding the ‘King and Queen of the Mountain’ events which gives prizes for the fastest man and fastest woman on the Egford Hill section of the half marathon route.
“We are also looking to build up even more atmosphere by having musicians at strategic points along the way.”
