A local church celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight (9th – 22nd September) and the 30th anniversary of the Fairtrade mark with a Fairtrade café, stall and quiz this month.
The event, hosted by Wesley Methodist Church, raised funds for Transform Trade, a charity supporting global communities fighting for fairer trading practices.
Rev Margaret Crawshaw said, “As a Fairtrade Church, we take seriously the trade injustice faced by so many small producers around the world. The aim of the event was to remind people of the importance of buying fairly traded products whenever possible, and to raise funds for Transform Trade.
“We are grateful to the Culverhill Co-op who provided us with samples of many of their Fairtrade products (including chocolate, bananas, coffee, tea… and single-use barbecues!). It was also encouraging to have the support of the Mayor of Frome, Andy Jones, and our new MP, Anna Sabine, who both made time to call into the cafe.
“The theme of Fairtrade Fortnight this year is ‘Be the Change’ and we will be asking Anna to take the ‘Be the Change’ pledge to stand with Fairtrade farmers,” she added.
