THE first thing you see when you enter Frome Museum, is a Cabinet of Curiosity, a display cabinet that is available for members of the public to show items of interest to them. The latest display hosts the treasures of Erin K Green, aged 9.
Erin has been interested in nature since she was a toddler and is an avid collector. The objects she has chosen to display include many items found close to Frome, but there are also some fascinating treasures found during trips to the coast. Simon Carpenter, volunteer curator of geology at Frome Museum says, “I’m delighted by the latest Cabinet of Curiosity and heartened to see a young person so interested in the natural world. I’m very keen to encourage more young people to display their treasures at the museum and would like to appeal to local schools to get in touch if they have individual children or classes who would be willing to show their collections at Frome Museum”.
The museum is offering members of the public who collect natural history objects, including bones, fossils, minerals and archaeology, the opportunity to display their treasures for one month in the museum. The museum will provide an attractive and secure space and help with labels. If people are interested, they can leave their contact details at the museum in person or contact the museum by phone or eMail. Frome Museum is at the bottom of North Parade by the bridge and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am – 2pm from March to mid-November, and on Independent Market Sundays. The museum is reliant on donations and they encourage visitor donations. School groups are welcome throughout the year by appointment, as are groups/societies. The website, which shows the museum’s telephone number and email address, can be found at www.frome-heritage-museum.org
