The Frome Medical Practice is urging local people – particularly those in vulnerable groups – to get their annual flu jabs over the next few weeks.
As in previous years, the vaccinations are free to ‘over 65s’ who are once again also entitled to a free pneumonia vaccination, which provides lifetime cover and can be requested when the eligible patient attends the flu clinic.
Women who are pregnant and those with long term illnesses are also entitled to the free vaccination as are the main carers of those who are elderly or disabled should their welfare be at risk in the event of the carer falling ill.
One of the partners at the practice is Dr Diane Bungay. She said, “We estimate that there are approximately 8,000 patients in the Frome and surrounding area who are entitled to a free flu vaccination and we are keen that as many as possible take up the offer.
“I would also want parents to know that we would particularly welcome healthy young children between the ages of two-four to take up this opportunity. For this age group the children receive the vaccine in nasal spray form.”
The flu jab clinics this year are taking place in a similar format to last year, making it easier for patients to attend, with appointment times being made available during the early evening as well as at other times. All of the treatment at the clinics will be taking place at the medical centre at Enos Way. Booking the appointment is however essential.
Dr Bungay added. “The easiest way to book your flu jab appointment is to do so online at www.fromemedical practice.co.uk. Alternatively, appointments can be booked by telephone on 01373 301 301 or by calling in at our information desk at the health centre.”
